I disagree with the other reviewer. I have participated in and seen numerous versions of the Nutcracker where Candy Canes take the place of the Russian Dance and I don't think the Snow fairy is too far off from the Snow Queen. I never expected this book to tell the Nutcracker story. It is perfect for a taste of the dances in the Nutcracker Ballet, but done for a toddler to understand. The illustrations are cute as can be. This has become one of the holiday favorites of my toddler. .Product details

Love her books! Great for little hands and curious minds.
I bought this book for my daughter (16 months) because she LOVES the Karen Katz books, and I get her one for every holiday. I thought the Nutcracker version would be so cute and unique as a gift for her at Christmas. Well, it is a very cute book, but I just can't believe there is not a single picture or mention of a Nutcracker, or Clara or even the Mouse King. Yes, I expected a super simplified- 6 or 7 page book, as all Katz books are. But somewhere in there, instead of Candy Cane Kids or the Dewdrop Fairy, I expected CLARA and THE NUTCRACKER and the darned MOUSE KING! The other problem is that there IS NO SUCH CHARACTER as the Candy Cane Kids or the Snowflake Fairy in the Nutcracker. There are snowflakes, and the Snow Queen, but no Snowflake Fairy, and definitely no Candy Cane Kids. I'm so disappointed. This could have been such a great, baby-sized intro to the Nutcracker. And so many moms and daughters love going to the Nutcracker at Christmas. Instead, this is just a book titled "Nutcracker Twinkle Toes" with some made up characters and no mention or picture of any nutcracker or other primary nutcracker character (with one exception The Sugar Plum Fairy does appear). How hard would it have been for Karen Katz to actually look up the Nutcracker characters? Wikipedia, at least. Boo, Karen Katz! You phoned it in this time! (I gave the book 2 stars because it is actually cute, as all her books are. But, there was little to no effort put into this book.)
My Grandaughter loved the texture on each page as well as the skirted cover. A great bedtime book for the holidays.

My little one loves this book and it was wonderful to read prior to watching The Nutcracker! My only criticism is that I wish there were more textures in the book. It seems as though the areas designed to touch are all very similar. It's really cute though! And a quick read which is nice too!
