Diet 101 The Truth About Low Carb Diets edition by Jenny Ruhl Health Fitness Dieting eBooks

This and sister book BLOOD SUGAR 101 what they don't tell you about diabetes should be required reading for anyone with type one or type two diabetes. It might be a good idea if some of the medical profession who are in any way concerned with it. I was diagnosed with it 14 years ago following a triple heart bypass.Pity no one checked before I had my operation it costs virtually nothing to do! During the subsequent 14 years I can't remember how many doctors, nurses, clinics and specialists I've met that concur with each other. Levels, limits, food, weight, treatment etc.etc.
Buying and reading both these book and using them as my bible ,in 6months I've lost around 10 kilos, my blood pressure is 120/80,and my blood sugars are rarely if ever above 120 or below 70. I enjoy great food,am never hungry and still enjoy a respectable level of alcohol but with regular fasting days. The one thing I am ABSOLUTE on is staying below 40 grms/day but closer to 25 or less.
I saw my specialist last week who had suggested that she would probably need to put me on insulin, but no longer.
Everything I have said is absolutely true and documented.Oh by the way I was 69 a few weeks ago!!
In closing I would obviously recommend Jenny Ruhrs books to all of you out there and wish you luck, it's more than just possible. Good luck, give it a go. I feel great.
I hope Jenny Ruhr gets to read this as it gives me great pleasure to write it. THANK YOU JENNY.

Diet 101 The Truth About Low Carb Diets edition by Jenny Ruhl Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

I am a long-term low-carb eater and have read all the major books on this subject. It was almost shocking to read a book that was completely honest on this subject -- no pie in the sky promises, just realistic statements and expectations supported by fact. Truth be told, the conclusions in this book by and large support my intuitive judgments on this subject based on experience. The information on what level of carb restriction can be maintained in the long run is particularly helpful.

I was especially interested in the chapter on nutritional supplements. I take handfuls of the things, but recent news reports have increasingly de-bunked them. Jenny Ruhl's book provides the low-down on the most recent info on the claimed benefits. I'm going to closely re-evaluate the supplements I take.

A moderate low-carb diet is an excellent way of eating. I call it my "Protein & Produce Diet".....It has allowed me to easily keep my diabetic blood glucose readings at HbA1c 6.0 for years, without making it a big deal.

I love Jenny Ruhl's approach of evidence-based statements....i.e., "don't take my word for it -- read the studies!"
I need to say from the get go, I like this author. she writes in a way I can easily follow and learn from. it's practical and you can put it to use, as a older long standing insulin dependent diabetic I have learned how to better evaluate all the available "truths" and make selections that fit me and that I will be able follow, stick to and see results. I "found" Jenny back when I wrote a review of her first book. I am now 27 lbs lighter and in better physical shape because of the help I've gleaned. not perfect , still a ways to go but encouraged even though there have been more rough spots as well. I especially gained freedom & better health learning the truth about some of the supplements I thought I understood and needed. this book goes into a more saturated depth of understanding low carb eating. what it is, & what it ain't!
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes a little over a month ago. The biggest hurdle for me, after accepting the diagnosis - how or what do I eat to get my blood sugars under control? Very low carb, moderate low carb, vegetarian, or nutritarian diet? There is a plethora of information on the internet, and in books. I have spent about $200 on books alone to educate myself about this disease, and I still have no idea "how I should eat".

Then, a diabetes forum member recommended a website - that talked about blood sugar - Blood Sugar 101. My goodness - what an eye opener. I went and purchased the book Diet 101 and boy am I glad I did. It is worth every penny and the time to read. I learned more in few hours than I did skimming through the hundreds of dollars of books I already purchased. This book teaches what doctors do not, and it gave me the tools and information I needed to customize a diet that will work for me and my body. It does not push you in any one direction, but rather lays the data out for an educational foundation where you are able to make up your mind as to how to proceed. Out of all the books I have purchased - this one beats them all. An invaluable resource and I can't thank this author enough. PS her website rocks too!
This is a really great book. Jenny is not a doctor, but she has actually tracked down the research papers underlying a lot of modern diets. What she found in the research is not what you've been told in the sales pitch for these diets. Or the study only had 6 people in it for 3 months! Her research is enhanced by her years of experience on on-line weight loss groups where people report what works and what doesn't.

SPOILER ALERT Any diet will help you lose weight at first. No one can stay on any diet for years and years, yet diabetics need to. Ketogenic diets produce short-term weight loss as you lose water and glycogen from your muscles. Quit the diet and the weight comes right back, real fast. The only diets people can stay on are low carb diets, not "no carb" diets. Controlling glucose & carbs, curbs appetite. Fewer calories consumed means weight lost (to a point, then your body thinks you're trying to starve it and reacts).
This is a really nice book to explain why many diets appear to work, but really don't. And how to find a path to your own diet success.
